The evolving roles in HR
I spend most of my time talking to HR professionals, usually in the arena of Talent Management and Resourcing and Recruitment. One trend that’s becoming ever stronger is the link between these functions or the entire integration of them.
Flicking through business cards from a range of recent meetings I come across titles including ‘Head of Resourcing and Talent Management’ (not very original, granted), ‘Capability Director’, ‘Organisational Capability Lead’ and ‘Director of Talent Attraction and Development’.
I asked a related question at a recent think tank; ‘Is the integration between recruitment and talent development set to continue?’ 90% of delegates agreed with the statement.
Reflecting on this fact makes perfect sense; business leaders after all aren’t interested in putting ‘bums on seats’ but also in realising a decent return from that ‘bum’. However, traditional ‘centres of excellence’ thinking (Ulrich et al) suggests that the competence required for external recruitment and internal talent management were sufficiently diverse as to be managed by different functions.
So who’s winning, the centres of excellence or the integrators?
